Ways to Fix a Slow Computer

Article by Ryan Weisgerber

Computers have such an important function when it comes to our daily activities. It is not surprising to know that they are commonly found in most households in our community. Both men and women love to use computers for their studies, business transactions, daily requirements at home and school, as well as for other activities. Even young children understand how important a computer is and sometimes even know how to use computers better than their adult counterparts. Almost 90% of people in our community would say that they couldn’t live without the presence of computers in their lives. Just think about how important a computer is in your life. It is probably safe to say that it is a “need” and not just a “want”.

But imagine how terrible it is when we experience a computer that is not functioning properly. Many issues concerning computer performance issues can occur. We may wonder how these things could happen to our computer. There are specific explanations behind every situation. Sometimes it is very difficult to diagnose the exact cause of a slow computer. You could ask an expert technician like Troy Soukup. But it is even better if we are the ones who first solve the problem before anything else happens. We must look for the cause behind a slow computer to avoid extra hassle and expenses. Troy Soukup is a computer technician that will really help you repair it.

Before seeking help from a technician such as Troy Soukup, you should first try to answer these two questions which could you help solve your problem more quickly.

The first question is, when was the last time you tried restarting your computer? It is good practice to try and restart your computer at least once every week. Most users will simply close their laptop once they are done using it, placing it into a hibernation mode. A much better idea is to actually turn your computer off. This is a better practice for your computer and will cause less wear and tear it. It reduces use of the power supply and increases your computer’s lifespan. Start this practice immediately to avoid this problem.

The second question is, how old is your computer? While discovering the answer to this problem, it would also be beneficial to find out these things about your computer:

(1) Where you bought the computer you are using?

(2) Locate the stickers indicating the installation date on the back of the computer.

(3) Find the computer’s model number on the internet.

(4) Find the receipts for the purchase of the computer.

In conclusion, a slow computer can be a very frustrating experience, but thankfully there are ways to fix the issue.

Repair Your Computer By Yourself

Article by Liza Moore

By repairing your computer by yourself if it gets broken can help you save a lot of money and you can also learn new skills from it. On the other hand, you need a basic knowledge on computer repairs to do it. Well if that is the case, here are some of the computer rapier tips that you can do by yourself.

1. When you sense that your computer is not working properly or there is something wrong with it, you can check first the basic parts of the computer before you do extreme actions on it. One of the things that you must do first is to check that the computer is properly plugged in an external power source. Check if the necessary connections are properly connected to ensure that these things are not the cause of your computer problem. Once you ensure all of this but still you are experiencing a problem, then you can jump on into a much deeper assessment.

2. If your problem is just like having a computer virus, then you can just resolve it by scanning your computer and delete all the infected files and the computer virus itself by antivirus software. Generally, one of the main causes of a computer problem is a virus and you must delete it first to resolve the problem.

3. Basic troubleshooting can also be done in order to solve a computer problem. You can do rebooting, scanning, deleting, and many other more to repair your computer. To reboot your computer, simply turn off your computer and then turn it on again and go to the reboot setting and then click reboot. But before doing this, make sure that you make a back up of your files.

4. Upgrading some of your computer parts is also very important because if one component of your computer is not working due to damage or over usage, your whole computer will not work very well. It is important that you upgrade or replace some of your computer parts to ensure the quality of your computer.

5. Shifting your computer into safe mode can help you use it even though it has a small computer problem. By using it in safe mode, you can still use it normally but you cannot use some of its features such as the sounds, the wallpaper, and many others more. To use it in safe mode, restart your computer, go to it setting, and then choose safe mode.

Computer Diagnostic Tools To Protect Your Computer

Article by Dean Forster

At its most basic form, a computer diagnostic tool outputs a message indicating an error with a computer program, system or device. Error reporting in Windows is a built in computer diagnostic tool that runs automatically whenever there is a problem with an application. Computer diagnostic tools benefit computer users because it helps to pinpoint problems with your computer.

Many times, computers will get slow for seemingly no reason at all. Devices often malfunction and system problems can arise out of nowhere. For people who rely on their computer for business or personal use, these computer errors can be frustrating and problematic. So often with computers, people try to cure the problem by focusing on the symptoms. This is poor treatment for any kind of problem, whether computer or medical. The right computer diagnostic tool can help identify the source of the problem rather than focusing on the symptoms.

Using a computer diagnostic tool to find the root cause of a computer error or dysfunction will save you time, money and stress. When you focus on getting rid of the symptoms, the problem will eventually return. This causes unnecessary stress and takes up your valuable time to take care of the same problem repeatedly. When you go straight to the root cause of the problem, you can quickly replace or repair that component and be rid of the problem for good.

Computer diagnostic tools come in a couple of different forms. Software is one of the forms. Computer diagnostic software scans the registry of your computer to find incomplete, inactive and incorrect registry entries. Many computer diagnostic software programs can also repair or remove problematic registry entries. This helps to increase the speed of your computer and can help take care of system errors, as well.

If you are having problems with hardware components on your computer, diagnostic software may not be able to identify the problem. Some software is more versatile and geared towards detecting hardware problems, while others focus more on internal system and application issues. To solve hardware problems, you can invest in computer diagnostic tools that hook up to your computer hardware. You can find out more about using diagnostic tools for pc protection and performance at http://www.pctestingsoftware.com

Computer diagnostic tools for hardware components hook up to the different components and test them for proper functioning capabilities and activities. These tools can be more of an investment than their software counterparts, but they provide a quick and effective method for locating faulty hardware or hardware running at a limited capacity. This allows you to easily repair or replace the disabled hardware component, saving you the time and money it would cost to send your computer to a professional computer technician.

Investing in one or more computer diagnostic tools is a great way to protect the investment you put into your computer. The proper diagnostic tools can help keep your computer running quickly and efficiently for many years without having to pay for costly computer repairs and overhauls. Computer diagnostic tools are also the perfect solution for a computer do-it-yourself individual.

a-guide-to-basic-computer-terminology

Article by jagdeep

Let’s brush up our computer terminology!Ram? Mouse? One is an animal and one is a rodent right? Ram…that is the zodiac sign for Aries… If this is what these words mean to you than you can surely use this quick glossary of computer terminology. It would be a good idea to read through them before purchasing a computer because these are things you should know about first. If you already have a computer then these computer terms can help you know what to do if your new computer equipment is unfamiliar. Also, this computer terminology can help you if you have to call in for technical help.

Okay let’s go!

Cache: Cache is another type of memory kindred to RAM. The computer uses cache to quickly move data between the RAM and the CPU.

CD-ROM Drive: Most new computers now come with a CD-ROM drive as standard equipment. A CD-ROM drive reads data from a disc. These CDs look like a music CD, but hold data instead of music. CD-ROMs also contain games, dictionaries, recipe files, and lots of other things that you can load onto your computer.

CPU: The CPU, or central processing unit, is the brains of the computer. Most new Windows based programs use a Pentium processor or a AMD Athlon XP. New Macs use a different type of CPU called Power PC.

Disk Drive:Virtually all computers come with a disk drive that can read and save information on portable diskettes, also called floppy disks. You can use floppy disks to save information or to load new software onto your computer.

Hard Drive: The hard drive is also called the hard disk. You will probably never see it because it is nestled inside your computer. It’s the computer’s electronic filling cabinet, and it stores the computer’s operating system, files, programs and documents.

Keyboard: Just like a typewriter keyboard, this device is the primary way of inputting data into the computer programs.

Megahertz (MHz): This is the clock speed of the microprocessor. The higher the number, the quicker the information is processed. MHz relates to how many millions of instructions can be processed per second.

Memory:This is the circuitry or device that holds information in an electrical or magnetic form. There is read-only memory (ROM), which is information primarily stored on a disk, and random-access memory (RAM), which is chip-based storage inside the computer. Memory is typically measured in megabytes (MBs).

Modem:This mechanism connects a computer to a phone line so information can be sent from one computer to another or the user can access an on-line service or the Internet. In view of the popularity of the Internet, a modem is now considered basic equipment and comes on practically all-new computers. Most modems come with fax capabilities.

Monitor: An output device that allows you to see what you are doing (it is what you are looking into right now to see this). Most computers come with 14 or 15-inch monitors. This size is good for most people’s needs. Larger 17 or 21-inch monitors also are available, but may cost more. Myself, I prefer the 17-inch.

Motherboard:The motherboard is the circuit board that everything in the computer plugs into. The CPU, RAM and cache all plug into the motherboard.

Mouse: The mouse is another input device that makes getting around in your computer easier. It is a handheld object that is good for doing tasks such as moving and pointing to objects on the screen, and can replace the function and control keys of the keyboard. (If you need a lesson on how the mouse works and how to use it click here for a tutorial.)

Printer: A printer is an essential part of the computer if you want a hard copy of your work. There are four types of printers on the market: dot matrix, inkjet, bubble jet and laser. The dot matrix is the most basic. Most inkjets and bubble jets can print color and graphics, and a laser printer offers the best resolution at the highest speed.

RAM:Computers save data in two ways: on the hard drive and in random access memory or internal memory. New computer buyers should look for models with at least 16 MBs of RAM (or more, depending on what types of programs you will be running). Make sure that the computer can be upgraded.

Scanner:A scanner is a useful accessory to have if you are working with lots of artwork or photos. This device can copy written documents, pictures or photographs directly into your computer. There are three types of scanners: handheld, hopper-feed and flatbed.

Sound Card: This device allows your computer to reproduce music, sounds and voices. Make sure you have a sound card if you are planning to play multimedia games.

Video Card: The video card is the part of the computer that sends the images to the monitor.

Well there you have it, a quick course on computer terms. I hope it has helped to guide you in your purchase of a new computer; or to help you with the one you have.

Ways in Which Used Computers Can Make a Difference

Article by Groshan Fabiola

• Computer Donations and Their Impact on Education

If you are a computer freak that’s constantly looking for the next big thing in technology, then you probably upgrade a lot and replace your system completely every 2 to 3 years. When it’s time to switch to better equipment, instead of throwing your used computer away, consider donating it to someone who can put it to good use. With so many poorly equipped schools out there, PC recycling for charity benefits unprivileged children with modern, technology-assisted education – a genuine luxury in third world countries.

If you decide you want to make a computer donation, it’s often for the best to have a specialized refurbisher take care of placing your system where it’s most needed. Donating refurbished computer systems to educational facilities can:

- Contribute to properly equipped computer labs- Help young children become familiarized with computer technology- Encourage and empower students to pursue a career in the field- Enable school boards to save money, which could be channeled towards other programs

Moreover, this sort of PC recycling helps unite communities towards a common goal, thereby facilitating our children’s access to the industries around them. In recent years, many national and international projects focusing on mobilizing individuals and organizations to donate computers for charity have proved very successful, benefiting children with information processing systems while teaching them about the value of teamwork. And as we will further discuss herein, with the right mentality and proper understanding of the cause of responsible PC recycling, everyone can become an important contributor not only to our children’s education, but also to protecting the environment from e-waste.

• Saving a Used Computer Helps Save the Environment

Whenever we bring up the subject of recycling, computers are rarely part of the conversation. And if we do talk about them, we rarely see beyond basic energy saving tips, like turning the computer off when not using it. If we want to protect our environment from the harms of electronic waste, we’re going to have to change our perception on that.

With so many sources of pollution taking their toll on the environment, even the act of saving a single used computer can be meaningful! A recent United Nations environmental study found that the average personal computer swallows up to 1.8 tons of raw materials to make it, almost the same amount as a mid-sized vehicle. Moreover, the energy savings are considerably larger in reusing a computer, as opposed to recycling that system for the materials alone.

• Further advantages to saving a used computer are:

- Saving landfill space- Preventing harmful chemicals from leaking into the ground and contaminating water sources- Preventing incineration of computer components, which produces many pollution agents- Reducing fossil fuel, chemical, and water consumption, as each PC manufactured requires about 240 kg of fossil fuels, 22 kg of chemicals, and 1,500 kg of water.

Since we already have the means to prevent further eco damage and a number of feasible options for reusing computers constructively, we should all get actively involved in projects of this nature.

The Mac folks рlease take note abοut defragmenting your hard dгive аnd having өnough RAM. Often Mac users start loading uр all tһat fancy pһoto editing softwаre (pluѕ ωeb browsers, eмail programs etc.) and you wonder why mү compυter іs running slow. All thοse programs need RAM and our page aЬout Randoм Accesѕ meмory will explain why үour computer is sloω when yοu have ten programs opөn аt οnce.

But а coмputer tһat suddenly bөcomes sloω мay hаve a vіrus οr spyware progrаm robbing itѕ resources. Oг perhaps some new program was installed? Download something not so good from the іnternet maybe? Run а virus scan and spyware ѕweep aѕ a fiгst steр in diagnosing a ѕlow computөr.

Check how mucһ RAM iѕ there? The coмputer’s live “working ѕpace” is called RAM memory. Not to bө confused with the files stored on yοur hard drіve, RAM memοry empties out ωhen thө computer shuts down. Tгy this analogy- thіnk of your computer as а desk witһ fіle drawers (the hard drive), thөn tһink of RAM as tһe amoυnt οf availаble spacө you have on the desktop to lay oυt your woгk items (files, fοlders, etс.). All the progrаms that aгe running аctively, as mentioned aЬove, aгe using RAM memoгy to run in. The more үou hаve, thө better. For а computer гunning Windοws XP it’s nicө to hаve 1G (a gigabyte, whiсh is 1,000 megаbytes), Ьut 512M iѕ OK too- 256M is really nοt enοugh even tһough Microsoft sаys it is.

Check Disk for Erroгs and Fragmentatіon οf the Hаrd DriveYou may hаve һeard of “fragmentation” of a hard drive. Generally speaking, defragmentation is overгated as a way to ѕpeed up а slow coмputer, but severe fragmentation гeally cаn slοw things down. Fragmentatіon refers to thө way files are physically lοcated on the haгd dіsk’s rаpidly spinning ѕurfaces. For sοme crazy reason, іn normal use, files get fragmented. That means that fragments of what you see as а single file, mypaper.doc fοr examрle, are actυally scattered aгound іn differөnt placeѕ on the drive. When you defragment a hard driνe, thө fragments are relocated in а more efficient ωay. Windows XP and 2000 both haνe defragmenting utilities. Click tһe Toοls tab foг the disk utilitieѕ. Run thө error-cheсking tool first (Figυre 5- a restart will be required). Dο not tгy tο defragment а hard drivө witһ lөss than 15% free space.

Fix registry errοrs. Wө know that regiѕtry iѕ а databaѕe that ѕtores all information about your Windows and programs installed on the PC. Nο matter whаt programs үou aгe running, it will frequөntly read thiѕ database for asѕociated data. Becauѕe of tһis, errοrs liĸe emptү rөgistry keys, invalid paths will come inevitably.Regiѕtry errors οn onө hand will ѕlow down compυter; on the οther hand, it will seriously result іn sүstem slowness, frequent bluө screen of death, which will greatly reduce working efficiency.
